The City of Monona, an Energy Independent Community, recently approved a contract for the largest Wisconsin municipal solar electric project. Photovoltaic systems will be installed and owned by a third party investor with the approval of Monona's utility, Madison Gas & Electric. Arrays on four city buildings totaling 156 kilowatts will generate electricity to directly power each building, offsetting approximately 30% of the building energy use. Buildings include: City Hall, Public Library, Public Works Garage, and the Public Works Department Well No. 3.
